Tivani Mashamba-Thompson, born in Limpopo Province, and completed her secondary education in Limpopo. She obtained her tertiary qualifications in the UK . She qualified as a Biomedical Scientist in the National Health Service, (NHS) UK, pathology laboratories. She worked in various UK pathology laboratories for 10 years before returning to South Africa and working for Medical Diagnostic Services (MDS Africa) in Durban. At the end of her laboratory contract with MDS, she expanded her biomedical science portfolio through Molecular Modelling and Drug design research with the University of KwaZulu Natal. She chose to do this not only to maintain her continual professional development but to immerse herself in developments in SA healthcare field.
